Editing (looking for mechanics, usage, grammar, and spelling) is an important part of any written piece, but more and more often, documents need to meet ADA compliance. The American with Disabilities Act, established as law in 1990, "prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public" according to the ADA National Network website. As part of ADA compliance, businesses and organizations must meet "the requirements ... during the design, construction, additions to, and alteration of sites, facilities, buildings, and elements to the extent required by regulations issued by Federal agencies under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)." Education is a field that requires ADA compliance.
